The Ale House is a small family-run[1] bar and restaurant, established in 1972 on Massachusetts' renowned Cape Cod.[2]

The outside of the establishment features a windowless red brick façade, with a large sign painted with tall letters announcing the Ale House attached to wall near the top of the peaked roof. A pair of shielded lights illuminates the sign. Below the sign and above the door lintel is a shelf with a Paul Bunyan sized beer stein seemingly ready for use. The double-door entry sports a pair of small windows with iron grates allowing a bit of sunlight to enter the front of the building.
Inside the doors at the front of the restaurant is a server's kiosk, with seating in the middle, enclosed booths lining the walls, and a wood-topped bar with stools at the back.[3] The restaurant is located near the beaches as many diners would arrive casually dressed or in bathing suits and cover-ups. Many of the locals came by for a family friendly meal.
At the time of Ash Upton's employment as a waitress, the restaurant was staffed by Tyler, who managed the business, and Rose, who was the head, and apparently only, waitress. She was responsible for training new waitresses.
