Ivan is a cocky high school student who has recently moved to Tempest from Alaska.[1] He brings with him skills in driving on ice and snow, giving him an advantage in the approaching winter weather, an advantage he intends to exploit.

He intends to succeed Ash Upton as King of the Mountain,[2] and he's not afraid to brag about it. His confidence is grating on Ash, and she is determined to bring a champion to challenge him for the title.
His confidence as a driver spills over into his relationships with women, and his constant eyeballing of Ash's cleavage further agitates her. He asks her out on a date, and she promptly shoots him down. Ivan suggests that when he becomes the next King of the Mountain, they should date, saying they would make the perfect royal couple. Despite Ash's assurances that this would never happen, Ivan remains confident of victory on and off the mountain.[3]
Later on, while discussing Ivan with Emily, Ash is unpleasantly surprised to discover that she's been ogling Emily's cleavage all along and begins to rethink her attitude about being offended by guys doing that to her. Emily shows a lack of self-confidence when she confides she puts up with it so she doesn't put off potential boyfriends.[4]
