King of the Mountain is the title deferred to the high school racer who has successfully defeated all opponents to face him or her during the beginning of the school year in a race down the Old Road. Once the title is won, the champion retains the title until the next year's competition. Those who are due to graduate cannot challenge for the title once they have left high school.
