Sheldon is an older boy, likely college age, and a bully who has come to the Old Road with his friends to force the other racers to give up racing there.
History[]
One day in Tempest High School, racers started approaching Ash Upton, telling her about this group of thugs that were denying them access to the Old Road. They appeal to her as King of the Mountain to take back the road.[1]
Sheldon and his goons found the Old Road and decide they like what it offers. Sheldon decides to take the road by denying the teenage racers access. Ash goes to the road the next Saturday night to see if she can talk to the guys, and when none show at the top, she leaves. On the way down, one of Sheldon's goons is blocking the road. The race to establish dominance,[2] and Ash wins. The loser tells her that Sheldon will race her next Saturday for the whole mountain.[3]
Later during the week, Sheldon tries to get Ash to accept a ride so they can talk, but she rightfully refuses. They arrange to meet in a mall parking lot at eight o'clock.[4] At the meeting, Sheldon tries to convince Ash to throw the race by offering financial considerations.[5]
Even though Ash had forbidden Rumisiel from going with her, he followed anyway, flying to the meeting place. Hearing the discussion, he becomes concerned, then he gets an idea that makes him very happy.[6]
Meanwhile, Ash questions Sheldon's willingness to cheat, and he tells her there's a difference between a good bet and a sure thing. When she asks how his crew is going to take his offer, he disparages his own team, claiming he has outgrown them. He also tells her if she reports to them what he said, he'll deny it and they'll believe him. As a final insult, he tucks a $20 bill under her windshield wiper.[7]
On the night of the race, Sheldon shows up with all of his crew, most of which he leaves back at the finish line, purportedly to secure the mountain after he wins. Ash isn't having it, and after telling him where to put his offer, the race begins.[8] After reciting the lineage of the two cars racing, Sheldon gets to racing, and he admires the challenge Ash is giving him. Further down the road, Ash shows Sheldon what it means to "know the road" when she feints left, causing him to react and drive into a pothole. This gives her the chance to come around, forcing him to brake to avoid a damaged guard rail and spinning out on the road.[9] Ash pulls away.
Sheldon gets out of his car, upset but not acting defeated. He admits this is not a best case scenario, but picking up a rock he states a change of tactics is in order.[10]
Arriving at the finish line, Sheldon accuses Ash of first trying to bribe him to throw the race, then bumping his car out of the way to pass him by. While his crew examines the "evidence" on the back of Sheldon's car, he expands on the bribery charge saying she offered to sleep with him.[11] Ash countered that he was the one to make bribes for her to throw the race, but his crew naturally didn't believe her and threatened to "take" the road anyway.
Just as Sheldon is gloating to Ash how even losing, he'd won, Rumisiel holds up a recording device and hits playback. Much to Sheldon's shock and dismay, his words disparaging his crew in the parking lot that night echo in the night air. The angel then ask if Sheldon's crew would like to hear some more, or maybe see pictures of Sheldon hitting his own car with a rock. When Sheldon tries to claim it was taken out of context, Rumisiel simply plays the rest. Sheldon turns to rally his crew, but they tell him to fuck off.[12] He turns back and begins to threaten Ash … and Missi hits him with a kick to the 'nads from behind, ending the Sheldon's ill-fated reign of terror.[13]
